Vito's Mothers Artichoke Delight (Carciofo)

How to prepare, cook and eat an Artichoke My Mama's Style

Ingredients

  • 1 Fresh Artichoke
  • 1 Mayonaisse
  • 1 Butter melted

Instructions

  •  
    Take the Artichoke and wash off and drain.
    Then place is a pan with a screen or something you use to steam veggies.
    Place water 1/3 full and start the boiling. 
    Cook for about 1hr. depending on the size of the Artichoke. 
    Make sure you check water level so not to go dry, add water when necessary. 
    By pulling of one leaf that's how you check if they are done, if it comes off easy.....they're done. 
    Remove and start to enjoy. 
    Use mayonnaise or miracle whip or your choice of dipping sauces.

In fact in 1850 a French physician successfully used an extract derived from artichoke leaves to treat jaundice, which was not improving with the drugs during those times. While artichokes may not be the easiest food to eat this year of vitamins, minerals, and chemicals found in this extraordinary vegetable, and they make them well worth it with nutrients that have many health benefits !
